eh.....kind of reminds me of when everyone used to wear Jnco jeans back in '97 with the dragons on the side of the leg, or the back pocket. I just can't get past that.

wait...looking at it more closely I can see that it's not a dragon. at least I don't think it is. it would read better in person. still the stem of whatever that is is so pronounced, that it's all I can look at.

its a cotton plant, its made of peoplr and chains and may indeed be a dragon. i think its meant to represent how the cotton industry was built on the backs of slaves.

...or maybe its the jeans thing.

whatever it is it feels a bit illustrative to me. not a bad thing just feels right for a diffrent venue.

In other words, it doesn't fit my narrow constraints of what fine art should look like and it makes my own carelessly executed work look pretty weak by comparison.

dear "in other words" fuck you my comment was not negitive in any way only that it feels illustraitive to me. i am entitled to that opinion. you dont think it feels illustrative? never did i refer to it as a bad thing or that i did not like the painting. so how can you say that i have narrow constraints? and my own carelessly executed work that you know nothing about, you do not even know who i am. you even say "look" like you have seen my work? you know if you want to compare resumes and portfolios just post your email adress and i will send it to you then we will see

wow... battle of the anonymouses... popcorn, anyone?

I love this site. The immaturity is so amusing on an otherwise dull day of art-seriousness. :-)

Look forward to seeing your work in person Jason. There tends to be harsh criticism and quick judgements that label one as "illustrative".
Often that is a self-soothing criticism in that the labeler is bolstering themselves as being other and thus more involved / evolved.
When closely looked at I think in great irony so many works fall under their own definition of being "illustrative".

Perhaps its not so much about learning rules but learning something about observation, particulary first hand experience. Conceptual artists are often jumping to quick assumptions and judgemental conclusions anyway. Hard to sort the fecetiousness (previous mr. poopy pants) from the sincere.

I've seen the equivalent "detroit premier" or to that extent posted by some other detroit artists.
I guess you've got to promote yourself for some occasions..
Not like someone else is going to do it for you. And if they try hopefully they do it the right way!

Yes, Baker. To be successful, you have to promote yourself.

"Anonymus"-Do I seriously think I'm the "premier"? - No
Its Marketing stupid.

Wow! Its funny that asses always have something to say anonymously. Who are you anyway? Whats your website? Where is your work? What museum owns your art? How much do you sell and at what value?

I'm willing to battle anytime.
Step up coward.
