I like the bringing together of two images. Stereoscopic effect makes you contrast, compare and try to force similarity - even if there is none to be found.
Feels more as if you're looking at sculpture than a photograph.
i dont know why but this combo seems to work. maybe the greens and shapes balance. interesting. is this the same jon cynar whose known for curating? i remember him at paint creek in rochester. i got in a few shows there. i guess everybody wants to be an artist.
Yeah John was at Paint Creek and has bounced around a bit with an opening coming soon at the Next Step. One of this areas finest curators / installers in my opinion.
god_father: what're you looking for, a penis with laser lights?!! there's art that shocks, awes and just gives pleasure. i plead the third for this one.
John went to art school, architecture school and has always been an artist. He acts when others sit on their ass in this town. Yes, he gave me shows too, but just because someone curates in order to make things happen doesn't take the artist out of them.
Is'nt it supposed to be sterile.? Look around you. The great challenge and beauty lie in slowly taking in your surroundings. Letting things filter through untill the beauty and poetry are revealed.
i find that i really enjoy this work. at first yes a bit steril but i still like it why ?
mimicing shapes, high church stepol left and power lines right same for the triangular roof line of church to house roof on right. strong horazontal line at base of each photo with grass and building also circle window on left and dome thing on right. even the negitive space is vastly simmalar when you look closly.
this is why i like this work. clean simpal composition, real text book situation but still good.
John's work is some of the better photography I've seen in Detroit. It's different, and it's not just a snapshot. In a way it's inspiring. The comparison between the spliced images is inticing, but more in the aesthetic sense. lines are continued even through the brokeness of the two images coming together. It is apparant the the whole image is considered rather than just taking two random images and throwing them together for now reason. I would say it is very arrousing. It must shop at victoria's secret.

In my humble opinion, these works seem quite sterile.
I generally can't bring myself to appreciate photography. but if I could, I would like these. Which I suppose says a lot?

Sorry, but John's work doesn't even arouse me enough to be bored by it.
