The time I've been in France so far has sent me on quite a tangent, which I'm pretty happy about. My work has been getting more and more conceptual...everything from task based drawings to installation to found object sculptures. I started out my stay here doing paintings and hating everything I did...so I figured it was time for a change.
I think it will be interesting to see how the work your making now in France will influence the way you make paintings in the future. That is if you do return to that medium as a large part of your practice? You never know?
I would not say everything gets old after a month. Looking out at the yard every day is a beautiful thing. Looking at Corot paintings never get old for me or a whole host of other works that are somehow full and empty at the same time. Some work has that quality and this does not for me.
Its good to see John's willingness to move beyond the canvas, I really appreciate it when artists step out of their comfort zone. It reaffirms their desire for self exploration and gives us, the audience, something fresh to react to.

Interesting piece John.
Have you done any other work like this or has Europe sent you off on an experimental tangent?
I've had reservations about your work but I think you've sold me on this one.

Old master paintings are the best!
And will always be better when compared to 21st century installation art!
No one will ever create anything close in comparison!
Its futile!
Contemporary art sucks!
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...
I guess not everythong does. But if you can keep my attention for a month that's a feat.
P.S. Old Masters suck balls. Contemporary is Off The Chain!!!
It was not hard to guess that would be your reaction to such an example. So predictable. You are old masters of the contemporary regurgetation.
"Old masters of contemprary regurgitation"
